A Future Surgeon!

Jim was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia over a year ago. An avid hockey player, Jim came to us ready to fight his disease as hard as he fought on the ice.  Over the past year, I’ve come to discover that despite his disease, and despite having to face a two-year course of chemotherapy, Jim has still maintained his sense of adventure and sense of humor.  Our  clinic visits together have frequently  ended with Jim telling me his latest adventure out on the town, his latest travels, and his most recent sports outing.  His indomitable spirit and perseverance have allowed him to get back to his normal activities as he enters the final few months of his therapy.

Every now and then Jim will come into clinic with a new story and the occasional battle scar.  His attempt to treat an ingrown toenail have made think that Jim has a bright future in surgery, although I’ve made Jim promise that he’ll practice on anything but himself.

Jim is are winning his fight against leukemia.  Your donation to pediatric oncology programs at the Jimmy Fund Clinic allow us to help parents and families care for their children with cancer.  Please click here to make a donation today in honor of Jim, his parents and their success in fighting leukemia.

July 2008: An Update from Jim’s family

Jim he has matured into a wonderful young man.  His health and strength have returned and he was able to play varsity hockey at Medfield High School last season albeit an abbreviated one.  Jimmy is now lifting weights and playing summer hockey and really lighting it up to the tune of a goal a game.  More importantly, Jimmy continues to get good grades and maintain his honor roll status.  He works hard and does well although dare I say I believe he needs to improve his college board scores.  This summer Jimmy is working with his mother as a camp councilor and enjoying it.  He teaches three classes and has quite the following with his group of 8 to 10 year olds.  We are all proud of him.
